Roan (crane scissors) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work plays with the concept of 'practicing memory.' Their photo-illustrations involve abstracted nostalgic motifs, figural forms, and the delicate line between growth & decay. Recently, their imagery embraces the absurd—beloved childhood characters and objects fill the pages of their sketchbooks, such as the spontaneously appearing black cat of the manga Trigun or a portrait of the artist's first (of many) dead Tamagotchi. Roan is currently working on a series of prints featuring cherished and obscure cat characters of manga and anime. Alongside their illustration practice, they have a deep love for cosplay and prop building, exploring the tactile process of bringing fiction to life.
